Mythbusters

Just about any product or service can be purchased through direct, face-to-face selling and marketing, from cosmetics and household products to organic food, home-efficiency solutions and much more.

Appco has been using the face-to-face sales and marketing method since 1988 and it continues to deliver results for our clients in both the commercial and non-profit sector. We believe in this method of acquiring new customers and donors and, over more than 25 years, we have proven that it achieves incredible results for commercial and non-profit organisations alike.

However, the direct sales and marketing industry – and Appco Group’s role within it – is often misunderstood. So we decided to take a look at some of the most common misinterpretations and provide clarity with facts.

MYTH 1: Appco exploits its workers.
MYTH 2: The Appco Group is a scam.
MYTH 3: The Appco Group Pyramid Scheme.
MYTH 4: Appco operates under a range of other names

MYTH 1: Appco exploits its workers.

FACT: Field representatives are contracted on a self-employed, commission-only basis.

This means we give entrepreneurial people flexible working opportunities and the ability to define their own career paths. Our model allows them to determine their level of commitment and effort, and take full control of their income and life choices. They can also tap into a wealth of knowledge and experience to allow them to develop on a personal and business level, with an opportunity to create and grow their own business venture.

We are transparent about our model, and provide detailed information on how we operate in each country under Field Representatives on each regional website.

MYTH 2: The Appco Group is a scam.

FACT: Appco Group complies with all relevant laws and codes of practice for every sector in which it operates. It also works in close consultation with industry and sector bodies including the Institute of Fundraising, Public Fundraising Regulatory Association, Ofgem, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Gambling Commission and the Lotteries Council.

Appco Group is also a member of the Direct Selling Association, the national trade association for the direct sales channel, which thoroughly vets all of its members to ensure they comply with its exacting standards.

MYTH 3: The Appco Group Pyramid Scheme.

FACT: Appco is not a pyramid scheme. A pyramid scheme requires people to personally contribute financially and they are then paid for recruiting people into the business. No one within Appco’s operational model is paid in this way, nor are they ever required to make a personal financial contribution to the business.

MYTH 4: Appco operates under a range of other names.

FACT: Appco Group does not operate under any other names. It is sometimes confused or interchanged with its parent company, the Cobra Group of Companies – of which Appco Group is a subsidiary. In all markets in which Appco Group operates, we conduct marketing and customer acquisition campaigns on behalf of our clients, using their branding to ensure maximum awareness and understanding of their products, services and worthy causes.
