Fight continues against heart disease
July 9, 2013
May 2013 saw the return of Heart Week and for over 20 years, The Heart Research Institute has been one of Australia’s leading research organisations working to detect, prevent and reverse heart disease.
Appco Group Australia is proud to represent The Heart Research Institute and continue to raise awareness for the organisation and the great work and research they do.
Young at Heart is a 14 year on-going research project that has followed a group of children from birth, originally looking at childhood asthma, the project has now uncovered some interesting finds about cardiovascular disease in young people. The research has unearthed some preventative measures including the use of omega 3 fish oil in babies with low birth weight. Low birth weight is a risk factor for later-life cardiovascular disease, which is measurable by a thickening of the artery walls in children as young as 8; omega-3 in the diet stops this thickening from occurring. This study also shows that smoking during pregnancy puts the child’s heart health at risk.
Research at The Heart Research Institute has also uncovered that various naturally occurring compounds found in Green Tea can reduce heart disease.
Appco Group Australia and The Heart Research Institute have a long standing partnership, working together for over 10 years to fund this vital research into heart disease.
